Nature's Power for the Health of Horses
At Saracen Horse Feeds, we believe quality feed is based on carefully selected ingredients. Each ingredient is backed by science and designed to promote the health, performance and well-being of your horses – whether they are sport champions, studs or loyal riding companions. We work with Kentucky Equine Research (KER) to ensure that our feed meets the highest standards. Let's take a look at the key ingredients that make our products unique.
Barley
Barley is a traditional grain rich in energy and nutrients. In micronized form it is easily digestible and ideal for horses, who need a quick supply of strength without unnecessary strain on their digestion.
Maize
Corn (Maize) provides concentrated energy, which is particularly popular with sport horses. Thanks to micronization, it's gentler on the stomach and effectively promotes performance.
Oats
Oats are a classic source of energy and fiber. In micronized form, it provides a fast-acting balanced diet suitable for active horses.
Peas
Peas are a natural source of high-quality plant protein and energy. It promotes muscle growth and is a great supplement for young or training horses.
Beet Pulp – Sugar beet cuts
Beet pulp is rich in fiber and easily digestible carbohydrates. They promote healthy digestion and provide energy without overloading the stomach – ideal for horses with sensitive digestive systems.
Alfalfa – Lucerne
Alfalfa offers high-quality protein, calcium and fiber. It promotes healthy bones, muscles and digestion, and its flavor makes it a favorite of many horses.
Soya Hulls – Soya husks
Soya husks are a low-calorie source of fiber. They help maintain a healthy gut and are perfect for horses who need a balanced diet without excess calories.
Oatfeed – Oats feed
Oatfeed, a by-product of oat processing, provides fiber and gentle energy. It is gentle on the digestive system and suitable for horses with sensitive stomachs.
Molasses
Molasses enhances flavor and provides quick energy. We use it in small doses to make food appealing, but not increase the risk of excess sugar.
Linseed – Flax seed
Linseed is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It improves the health of your skin, coat and joints as well as providing a healthy source of energy.
Soya Oil – Soya oil
Soya oil contains omega-6 fatty acids. It delivers energy without increasing starch, promotes shiny coat and healthy skin – great for long-term endurance.
Equi-Jewel® – Stabilized rice bran
Equi-Jewel® is a rice bran high in oil. They provide cool energy, help build muscle, improve fitness and give the coat a beautiful shine.
Sunflower Meal – Sunflower scrap
Sunflower Meal is derived from sunflower seeds after pressing the oil to make sunflower oil. This residual scrap is rich in protein and is mainly used as a source of protein. It is also a good source of fibre and linoleic acid, which contribute to the overall nutrition and health of horses.
Wheatfeed – Wheat feed
Wheatfeed comes from the milling process of flour for human consumption. It consists mainly of the fibrous husk of a wheat grain together with part of the starchy endosperm, which is the nutrient-rich core of the grain. The raw material is prized for its unique combination of fibre and starch, thing that makes it suitable for almost all Saracen feed. Wheatfeed is also a source of protein – it contains more than most cereals and is comparable to wheatgrass. In our Saracen cube formulations, it plays a key role because its natural gelatinous properties help the pellets hold together so we don't need any chemical binder.
Grass Pellets – Grass Pellets
Grass pellets contain a mixture of various grasses that are specifically dried to preserve their nutritional value. These pellets are naturally sweet and a great source of protein – usually 13% or more – as well as an excellent source of fibre. Due to their high digestibility, they are gentle on the digestive system, making them an ideal ingredient for horses with sensitive digestion. Grass Pellets are the perfect choice in feed doses designed for horses with dental problems because they are soft and can be easily soaked. This quickly and easily turns some of the food into a-tasting porridge that horses can easily accept.
Super Fibres – Super fibers
Super Fibres include sources such as candy bars or grapefruit. They are easy to digest, promote a healthy gut and provide gradual energy, thus reducing the risk of digestive problems.
Micronised Cereals – Micronised cereals
Micronised cereals, such as barley or maize, are heat sanaged for better digestibility. They provide fast power for horses under load with minimal risk.
Palatability Plus (P+) – Increased taste
Palatability Plus (P+) is a unique blend of natural ingredients and flavourings. It ensures that even the most selective horses eat well and get all the nutrients they need.
Live yeasts – live yeast
Live yeasts keep the intestinal microbiota in balance, improve fiber digestion and boost immunity. They're crucial for horses under stress.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids – Omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids, often from flaxseed oil or KER's EO-3TM supplement, promote joint, heart and immune health. They reduce inflammation and are ideal for sport horses.
